Dumb answer but "it depends". Like - how much enjoyment do you get out of customizing things, how much will it bother you if a detail is inaccurate, do you think you'll wear the clothing outside of cosplay, etc.
Like I actually bought a pair of Converses (albeit thrift-store used) rather than dirt-cheap no-name Walmart sneakers. It wasn't THAT much more expensive and I end up wearing them in my day-to-day life so it was worth the extra price for the nicer quality.
However for a character that wears jewelry and high-fashion brands I definitely went for aliexpress/amazon/ebay knockoffs. I don't wear gaudy jewelry so I don't care that the gold and diamonds are fake. They pass the "costume quality" check, so even if a second glance reveals they're not legit it doesn't matter.
