I believe the conciseness is that you should wear a wig even if you're going to be hot. Just keep a fan with you and drink some water.

If you don't want a headband, then the clips are a good method or you could get curved combs [you can find them at Michael's and Hobby Lobby] and put the horns on them, slide them in your hair and style around it. For extra support, bobby pin the teeth of the comb in thick parts of your hair.

Which horns are you trying to make? For the smaller ones you could really cut the foam out of the equation if you have the time to allow for drying of Model Magic [to prevent crack's it's a really slow process of controlling air flow]. I don't want to assume but it's always surreal when I see cosplayers with horns I did for them. If those are the ones I did, I hope he likes them but other than that, he's a really good Cronus.
