There's a distinct lack of teaching in East Asia about World War II. They focus on German rise to power after the Nazis took control, and present the war purely in terms of a chronological succession of battles. 'Little' things like the mysterious disappearance of a few million Jews, political dissidents, social 'undesirables' and the disabled go unmentioned.
They at least teach their kids about World War II, but they miss the context a lot.
