I always think it would be lovely with one of those circular floral headdresses with a bow or flower in the middle but I've never seen a coord with that, it's always bows or roses. You could get away with a plain, elegant bag since the OP is the centrepiece.

Purple tights would be okay if you match the colour, it's just like having black tights with a black dress really. For warmth, I think you'd be okay with a square-neck or high collar blouse, but yeah, the same way you make anything warm - bolero, coat, capelet, scarf, etc...

I know how you feel. I used to own it and the material + neckline make it hard to put blouses underneath, I ended up going more for lower necklines. I went with a cutsew with a round neckline and boots the last time I wore it.
