The theme that you should be getting from these pics is literally all but this >>9647603 are wearing at least one main lolita item from an official lolita brand. They're also nearly all from brands themselves or experienced and well known lolitas.

If you can't even tell the difference between larme/general girly j-fashion and lolita you're nowhere near being able to bend the rules and have a decent even vaguely lolita coord. That's the entire reason they exist in the first place. So you figure out what lolita consists of and get a basic understanding of what looks good. "Lolita inspired" is fine, but if you're getting told it isn't lolita at all it most likely isn't instead lolitas being "obsessed" with rules,
