Costume Con was a different experience. It's pretty small, maybe around the size of Anime Shogatsu but spread out in a much larger hotel space with much wider hallways. Being way out on the outer edge of a suburb town didn't help attendance I'm sure. The programming is all focused on costume-making, naturally, but I did take in a panel on historical 18th century fashion that was really interesting. Vendor room was about the same size as shogatsu but only selling props, jewellery and costume parts. The crowd that was there was almost all in cosplay, and tons of elaborate and high quality ones. Mix of scifi, fantasy, historical reproductions, comic book, vidya, and original designs. A handful of anime costumes. Another thing of note was a lot of over-40 cosplayers, even 60+ with some very well made outfits. Quite a few francophones too.

The main event on Saturday is the masquerade. No dance or evening/overnight programming. Like the costumes, the skits were also well done and rehearsed, with some genuinely funny jokes.

The only blemish was a pair of wet blankets in the masquerade audience going "creeper" or "he's making everyone unsafe" or "UGH" or "SIIIIIIGH" whenever the MC threw in some banter about the sexier costumes. Everyone else, male and female, were cheering him on.
