Not even real hair would work in some cases, Miku's hair is closer to clip ons than actual bunched up hair. It looks really straight and thin at the top but too fluffy/dense at the bottom, plus there's little to no sign of hair being pulled as a ponytail would show (bottom right is the worst offender)

I can kind of get why someone would cosplay concept art if they like the character but not the official design, but it's like cosplaying an OC: don't expect people to immediately get it, and don't get mad when they say you're a shitty [character].

Personally I do think it's kind of stupid, but that's just me.
