I talked to my nutritionist about biotin supplements and if they actually do anything, and she told me that the only way you'd see a significant difference is if you were deficient in biotin to begin with. She gave me a weird look when I told her I was taking them. So basically if you're already getting enough of that, then that isn't the reason your nails are brittle and it won't help. I don't have brittle nails, but I do have coarse hair so I took 5000mcg of biotin for a few months. No significant difference in neither my hair nor nails tbqh.

If it's serious brittleness then it's more likely you could be iron deficient or have a thyroid problem. In which case it's wise to bring up your nails to your doctor.
But what I do for my nails to make them last longer and not break as much is get a UV gel polish at my local nail salon. It only costs me about $30~ each time, and it lasts for a month. The gel is a lot sturdier than regular polish (you don't have to wait for it to dry) and it's less of a hassle than getting fakes put on.

Pic is my nails. I had surgery a few days ago, I just don't have any ideas to recolor them yet.
