well the leather jerkin is an entirely different thing, as it's come lower than the doublet, sometimes covers even parts of the tight or even the knees (that's the extreme case and has a very specific reason) and sometimes this hides the hose and doublet joining part.

But on colorless pics people often confuse them with the regular textiles, like in this pic, it's easy to miss if you don't know what to look for
