I'm not sure where to ask this or in the stupid questions thread, but I want to get a sewing machine so I can start some family costume projects. I'm not really experienced, but I'm very determined and lurk a LOT. You guys inspire me.

I was wondering if anyone can recommend a good sewing machine with a budget under $300. Might push up to $500 if the machine is worth it. I like quality > price with almost everything I buy.

I don't want a piece of crap. I want something user friendly and durable with easily available replacement parts. Maybe a variety of features if available.

I'm okay with older versions under a few conditions. I have a 1978 kirby vacuum that is still better than my brand new one and parts are still available, so things like that are cool.

Also general question: What is your most used tool in costume crafting? Like something you can't live without? Maybe list your top 1-3.

And if no one told you, you look very pretty today. Thanks so much in advance anons.
