I appreciate that it's not easy but you can still achieve some volume/softness and fluff by pulling out the braids etc a little so they're not too tight and formal much like in this image (although you'll likely need hidden pins to take the weight of the hair and stop it flattening) >>8719343

Also if you don't have bangs or shorter layers, you could try experimenting with fake bangs that come with longer side pieces (pic related). You can also sprinkle a bit of talc on them to make them appear more realistic and even thin them out with scissors if you prefer a less heavy look.
