This thread. Can the troll trying to confuse cgl newbies into thinking otome = lolita please stop? They are actually going to spend money buying otome dresses not realising most of these won't even fit a proper petti, and then turn up to meets being all confused over their flat overstuffed skirt and the rest of us have to deal with them and set them straight.

For everyone else, pic is a reminder that otome don't just make pretty dresses with nice prints. This is a brand shoot straight from ETC, the entire coord is straight up otome, and it looks nothing like lolita.

A lot of the otome brands now make pretty printed dresses because it sells well, not because it's their main aesthetic. A key difference is that lolita strives to look refined and polished when they can, hence the really anal lolitas who bitch about colours clashing and all the emphasis on details. Otome's main goal is to look cute and girly, hence the emphasis on playful colours over being matchy-matchy, and why their dresses tend to be simple. So much of the core goals are completely different, if you conflate the two together, you're pretty much making it difficult for yourself to get a good eye for either fashion because you're looking at two seperate fashions with two distinctly different goals.

As for "soft lolita". This is in fact a term that Misako coined, it's in her book that came out this or last year. Your cgl senpais already bitched about it to death saying she invented a fashion that already exists, maybe you weren't here for that. Though in actual fact what she actually said was she noticed a trend of people dressing down lolita and crossing it with otome, and she calls the trend soft lolita. This is a new term that you can specifically trace to Misako, it's not part of lolita or otome's origin story.
