I don't deal with children anymore, unless im donating my time to the Shriners (even then, im usually doing sideshow). Kids tend to love me though. I follow Bozo's three rules though:

1: GET ON THEIR LEVEL
Kneel down. Look them in the eye and don't loom over the kid. If you are showing them that you are "with" them, they respond better.

2: TREAT THEM AS A EQUAL
Don't talk down to them. Don't treat them as lessers unless you need command (such as an emergency etc). Use small words, and introduce larger vocab slowly and graducally. Be their friend, and they will be yours.

3: WHEN ALL ELSE FAILS, RETREAT
Some people don't like clowns. As I have mentioned many times here, fear of clowns is both natural, and fairly hard to reverse. If they kid is overwhelmed by you, GTFO.
