To be clear, what do you guys think constitutes something being "too new to be old school"? The Bodyline heart JSK is supposedly from 2010, so is 2009 the cut-off point? Or even earlier? Is old school an aesthetic that's meant to bring back the styling and energy of the past, or just the practice of strictly using older pieces for one's coords? If it's the latter, would modern accessories kill off the validity of an "old school" coord, and just make it "old school inspired" by default?
Who even started the "old school inspired/trad =/= old school" thing really? I might be wrong, but I have a slight feeling it's not that one girl who made the YouTube "FAQ", even though people attribute it to her a lot. I remember someone mentioned it being Misako, but others claimed she was just using that to describe classical lolita, not old school.
I personally prefer hunting down older, rarer stuff secondhand, so I have no dog in this fight either way. It'd just be good to know the general consensus.
