It's that bad. Patchy paint, stolen face/body designs from Minori and the dude in OP who I'm guessing started the face writing/horns trend considering his is the only one that looks decent compared to everyone I'm seeing so far with it.

On one hand this gives me hope that when I try this, I'll instantly have that confidence booster of "Well I know I've seen worse so I'm doing pretty good." but on the other hand, it's really kind of sad to see that even the Homestucks can do better basic face paint coverage than half the people in this tag for a fashion that's 10000000% based on having basic face paint coverage.
