Generally being coordinated and flattering. There are a lot more comfortable/loose fitting aspects that looks cute on small Japanese girls but kind of frumpy on large or curvy western girls. The jean shorts on >>7917889 are not very flattering and the red tights are very loud and draw attention to thick, shorter legs.

In general I guess the hallmarks are:

This is obviously very general but a lot carries over into things like otome, gyaru and even more extreme styles like decora and fairy kei.
