If I'm very unsure about something I will soak it in a basin (in my case that's a large plastic box) of cold water or room-temp with detergent AND THEN run it through the wash, no soap, on the handwash setting. Soaking in detergient either some hours or for a full overnight seems to really help for set-in overall discoloration (to return a yellow-cream to a pale white cream or ivory color) and will smell issues.
Also always avoid the dryer with your main pieces, UNLESS you know it's durable enough to handle it then I'd do it once. When I first got into Lolita and was wearing Bodyline, I always threw their 100% cotton pieces through the dryer once so that I would have it at it's "true size" and be done with it instead of going through the shock of someone else shrinking it under worse conditions (like a friend borrowing it and drying it on full blast for the first time ever, cause more shrinkage/damage).

Lastly I just want to make a general complaint that out of curiosity I bought some actual antique Victorian (or early Edwardian) bloomers and petticoats and I'm really horrified at modern cottons by comparison; I'm able to run these plain, hand-eyelet lace garments through regular modern laundry machines with zero hassle. The weave is dense but it's so light weight. What the heck happened between now and then?

What's the weather report on buying Lolita right now? I've had a lot of time this year to go through my stuff and I have a handful of things I could pass along (brand main pieces) but I'm in no "rush" to do it now or later. I kinda prefer posting and selling on LM within a reasonable time frame and have, in the past, not bothered to re-list things that just don't seem to sell... SO is right now a good time for me to sell or should I wait until after lock down when maybe the market will move faster?
