Okay anon I hope you're still around. Before taking my makeup off I brought my computer to the bathroom and tried to mimic the pic you posted before.

What I used was
>Liquid eyeliner
>Pencil eyeliner
>A lighter
>Black eyeshadow

I lit the tip of my pencil for a second to make the black more intense as well as more creamy. This helps you if you want to cover large areas with a small amount of product. Then I blended it all out with my fingers [I would've used a brush, but I trashed them some time ago because they were too dirty and old and haven't gotten to replace them].

Then I picked the eyeshadow and filled in empty spaces, as well as lining my lower lid with an eyeshadow brush. I used liquid eyeliner for my upper lid.

If you're applying a white base on your face before your eye makeup, that could be the reason of it turning dark gray instead, so I would suggest leaving that area bare so you don't have problems with the color.
Hope this helps.
