I was big into gothic lolita in high school, but I had no money and spent many hours bent over the sewing machine and serger to make slightly embarrassing home made coords... some REALLY embarrassing. Skirts were sown to shirts and covered up with ribbon in a few cases...
Now that I actually have money I prefer to wear clothes styled after 1950's vintage... which I can ironically usually find for under $20 if I look hard enough.
Pic related is pretty similar to what I wear most of the time. Comfy, low effort, and usually entirely socially acceptable.
