Serious discussion time.

Does cosplay inherently attract 'broken' or 'damaged' females?

I've been going to cons for years now, and if you would have asked me this 3-4 years ago when I first started going, I would have laughed at you and called it bullshit. But honestly, now I'd probably agree. I don't know whether it's that these sorts of girls have become more prominent in the scene, or whether I've only just started noticing them as I began to pay more attention to it, but it's certainly there, as a thing.

Has anyone else noticed it? What do you think is the reason behind it if yes?
