I made Blanca in about a month, tried to make it dry-erasable but it didn't work out. I think I'll cover it in fleece so it matches the rest of the skin and look at black felt shapes that might stick to it (temporary for a picture).

How I went about it: paper maché with a last-minute "helmet", which involved rolled up pieces of EVA foam mats (it was rushed, otherwise I'd go with a bike helmet). For the paper maché, I used an exercise ball and poster paper (would recommend a stiffer paper) for the base, covered in shopping bags and syran wrap to remove the base easier. I did all I can to hide the thicker edges. I used wood filler to cover up, sand, more wood filler, more sanding, etc, till I got the surface right for priming and painting.

It was my first paper maché project and I learned a lot about it. It is very strong but also kind of heavy. Did 10 layers of newspaper but I think I could have gotten away with 7 layers.

Anyway, I don't think this is the last of paper maché for me. Though for mascot stuff, I rather save up enough to invest in a lot of thick upholstery foam to cut, glue and stack for large mascot parts.

It was a rushed job towards the end, I took too much time with the head and used white fleece because I had so much of it. Also it was a little hard to wear because I didn't pick up a helmet in time (used rolled up pieces of EVA mats to help fit on my head, worked in a pinch). I may be beating myself too hard over it because I'm a perfectionist, but I'll definitely look at revamping it one day, preferably in a way that I can see out of the head, be easier to wear the head, and less wrinkles for the body (so maybe a zentai suit?).
