I simply follow the car example.

You see nice cars at the street, at the supermarket, everywhere. You know you cannot touch them. You have to own it, or at least have what it takes to own it, to touch it. Loosely translating to a cosplayer girl's dynamic: you can only look. No touch. Only touch if you're her bf. Only try to be her bf if you know you have what it takes: you're single, she is single and interested in you.

It's that simple. Knowing your limits and knowing who you are is the key as well. You're not going to get anyone decent if you're an autist, for example.
