You dont have to prove to anyone that you know who Poison Ivy is; its so ingrained in our culture you be concidered wierd for not knowing.

On the other hand, 99% of people arent going to know who Madoka is.

Historically, people who have niche interests never like it when normalfags move into their hobby space.

Dressing up as a western character just gives off a "I don't watch anime outside of Toonami" vibe.

I'm guilty of instantly feeling superior to anyone who cosplays something that aired on US television.
