WARNING INCOMING NOVEL

Tips on toning down sweet lolita:

Head:
-Wigs (should you choose to wear one) should be a natural color. Stick to simple styles, too. If you want big hair, a hime wig looks less out-of-place than the pigtailed ones.
-Only wear big headbows if you have big hair to back it up. Smaller bows and headbands look much more low-key. Hats (both mini and full-sized) are a great alternative, too.
-Keep your makeup natural and basic as far as the color palette. Modest circle lenses and subtle dolly lashes look more low-key.

Upper Body:
-Blouses should be simple, basic and not too fussy. Try to avoid big yolk-like collars. Blouses from classic brands work really well for toning down a sweet outfit.
-Stick to ‘basic' blouse colors such as white and ivory, or darker shades like black and brown--or even some dark reds and blues depending on what you're wearing.
-Layering a cardigan, parka or bolero over a blouse looks more casual and toned down and casual.

Dresses and Skirts:
-Avoid prints with toys and the like on them or anything really OTT (ie. Milky Planet)
-Go easy on the pastels. Go for reds, darker colorways, and those rare jewel tones. Wine, deeper greens and shades of blue from sapphire to navy are also your friends.
-Avoid print overload. The focal point print-wise should be your dress. Everything else should be basic, but coordinate.
-Patterns such as tartan, polkadot and houndstooth are more low-key than prints.
-Solid color dresses with more classic-inspired cuts but sweet details are a great way to tone down a sweet outfit. (Also a good alternative if you are in love with printed socks/tights and want to wear them.)

Yeah, fuck off, all of you.
>BLACK LOLI THREAD? NOOOOOOOOOOO
Nobody really cares if you don't find black people attractive or if you like Asian girls or light skin. Just shut the fuck up and post Lolis of ALL races if having a thread specifically for brown ones bothers you so much.
"Colored loli" isn't code for "/cgl/ + /pol/ general!".

This was the overall sentiment I remember getting when I was new and asked about wigs because had very short hair. Some people even said that they would rather I leave my hair short or get extensions because wigs made it "costumey". Now I see people offering concrit because someone's wig doesn't match their dress.

I've been doing the same thing.

Even things that people paid an arm and a leg for in the past are going for a fraction of the price a few years later. Sure, you still have your Twinkle Mermaids and your Puppet Circuses, but most AP prints don't have that kind of staying power and their value starts to diminish once the new hot print is out. It's almost like some people think of it as an ephemeral, trend-oriented collector's hobby.
