Not proper /o/ but I know a little about motor carriages. I'm not sure about older models, but 90's Mercs are supposed to be spectacular both in terms of reliability and repairability. I'd be surprised if earlier models were worse in that regard.

Cars from the 70's are pretty mechanically straightforward though so maintenance and repairs probably won't be an issue. But a serious warning: don't crash it or even risk it by driving at highway speeds. Old cars will literally kill you.
