I'm not normally into Sailor Lolita, but this rules.

Self defense AND lolita in the same thread? Yes!

For all the people here talking about concealed knives and such, please check your local laws. Not just national or state, city as well. Possession of concealed knives (made to be hidden in other objects) are a felony in plenty of jurisdictions, as are fixed blades above a certain length.

Also, make sure to read up on the legal definition of self defense, because it's not what most people think it is. If you manage to incapacitate someone, or they stop fighting back, you can't keep hitting them. Then you're just committing assault or attempted murder.

If you've got time, I recommend a self defense class (I study Krav Maga), but not everyone has a few years to get good at fighting. If you want to arm yourself, don't go straight for a gun. It takes a LOT of training to get good with a pistol (at least 1,000 rounds) and using a weapon at a gun range is wildly different from drawing the weapon after someone has grabbed you by the hair and started hitting you. Guns are actually quite difficult to use at close quarters when everyone is flailing around.

For weaponry, I'd recommend mace, if you can get it. It requires no training (if you can operate hairspray, you can operate mace), and it doesn't require you to get close to the person trying to harm you (unlike a stun gun or knife).

For physical strikes, I would avoid kicks. Between the skirts, heels, and sometimes corsetry, it's going to be hard to keep your balance. Palm strikes to the face and jaw are good. Got finger nails? Claw for the eyes.

Also: Use your voice. In stress situations, people tend to be quiet. It's animal instinct stuff. You need to be the opposite.

Imagine if you're at a meet, and you have some friends who would totally help you out. That's awesome. But imagine if someone tried to harm you while you're in the bathroom, or around a corner, or generally out of sight. If you stay quiet, all of those friends and help means nothing. Be loud!
