Hi anon, lolita here: I'd caution against starting your crossdressing journey with lolita since the fashion has a lot of rules that can be hard even for female wearers to get right at first. Idk how familiar you are with the fashion, but I recommend doing a lot of research on the dos and don'ts of lolita before wearing it. Here are some really good resources for beginners:

Unfortunately, a lot of /cgl/ lolitas are very narrow-minded and insist that only women can wear lolita, but I'd say the community at large is actually pretty accepting of crossdressers and GNC people once you leave 4chan.

I can't give much advice about crossdressing since I'm a girl, but femininity and elegance are very important in lolita regardless of gender. Makeup and wigs can help achieve that, but they might not be necessary depending on how feminine you already look.

The image attached is a good example of a crossdresser (Sena from the band Jiluka) wearing gothic lolita. I'm sure the picture is heavily edited, but you get the general point about the power of hair and makeup.

If you just want to try it out but aren't sure if you'll like it, you can find lots of cheap lolita on Taobao. It probably won't be very good quality since good lolita is pretty expensive, but it might be good if you just want to test the waters and not waste $200+ if you end up deciding that lolita isn't for you
