I don't really have anything against people buying their cosplays as earlier anon mentioned, as long as you don't enter contests with it or claim that you made it.
However I just started sewing and I remember wanting to make my own Chopper Timeskip helmet (last year) since the plush shit you buy look absolutely horrible and are not the right size.

People kept telling me I should just buy the plush hat and it really pissed me off.
