Different anon (>>7646807 is me) but for me it's more like... As a woman I get dirty looks or even insults for smiling at a male child and my boyfriend gets the evil eye for being friendly to the women. The women, kids and some of the younger men are pleasant enough and relatively easy to talk to when you get them alone but once one of the older men shows up, everything gets very uncomfortable. We often hear the man who lives above us screaming at his wife and my boyfriend sometimes worries he caused it by chatting to her in the elevator up.

We're still going to be nice to them. I'm also not going to change the way I dress or act because some of the more conservative men think I look like a prostitute, because that's their problem, not mine. But we don't want to start conflicts, you know? It sometimes feels like we have to walk on eggshells in our own flat just to keep from offending people.
