Men have it so awful when it comes to trying to find diverse body types.
It's usually either

>or sumo tier fat
It seems like the mediums between the extremes are hard to come by.

Found a Kohta cosplay. For male cosplays you have to actually look up characters who are chubby and do a search based on that. 'Fat male cosplayers' won't turn up anything that isn't just a gag costume. I think the cosplay selection for guys is very limited, they don't have the leeway like girl cosplayers do because it's either the choice between a huge fat guy, a roided out muscle man, or a skinny asian boy. So it makes sense why bigger guys might be more self-conscious and more averted to putting effort into the costumes.
