It's hard to find detail pictures of the earliest releases of this dress, but this 2006 version https://lolibrary.org/items/btssb-lace-frill-jsk shows a few changes. The biggest one to me is the lace going down the entire front of the dress has gone from being slightly gathered and neatly topstiched along one side so the length of the lace goes to the center front, to being gathered down the middle and slapped down. This (to me) is lazy, and requires much less precision. The lace looks much thinner, with more open space than what was used on mine as well. Finally, a nitpick but they also removed the very thin lace hem at the bottom somewhere along the line.

Anecdotal, but I have some lace topped socks I bought a year or two ago new from Baby that use similar lace to what's on the bodice, and it doesn't even compare to the lace used on my pre-2010 dresses. It's not uglier or anything, it's just not to my taste because it feels so fragile and lacks body. I feel like I'm being very nitpicky and I wouldn't notice anything being off if I didn't own an old release.
