This is my rule of thumb for wearing alt fashions to work/weddings/non-alt functions: you can get away with one (MAYBE two) items that are identifiably alternative (lolita in this case), and everything else needs to be pared-down and occasion-appropriate. For example, if you want to wear a blouse with a huge peter pan collar and a floppy bow, pair it with a smart pencil skirt. If you're in the mood for a twirly, frilly skirt, stick to a simple blouse. Minimal hair accessories are best, I would never wear a head-eating bow or a mini-hat. Biggest piece of advice: ALWAYS wear sensible shoes to work. Your shoes say a lot about what you expect to be doing all day.

Sophistique Noir has a couple articles on wearing goth fashion to work or special occasions (look under tutorials, or search "wedding"). Lots of good advice there. I have a couple more collages in mind, I'll post them as I finish them!
