I thought the reason it started was because LJ was dieing.
LJ is dying because people are too scared to give CC, but now there's a Lacebook thread about when it's actually okay to offer cc. There's a suggestion about adding a tick box to your coords saying whether you welcome cc or not.

Can everyone that's on Lacebook get down there and support this? I don't want just another picture hosting site, I want somewhere where I can get cc, but where people aren't anonymous and so they'll be thoughtful about it rather than just 'lel fetty'.
