The radiator's the thing on the wall behind the desk.

I've tried taking photos in that area before by using lamps and it's generally just not a great space (I do really want a softbox though). There's nowhere you can stand at the right distance for photos so you have to put lights and camera on the bed, which is pretty wobbly. Is there some special trick to using a tripod on the bed, or is your mattress just firmer than mine?

I looked at the diagram with my flatmate and we just moved stuff like pic related (plus did some general tidying). It took a while to sort out the shelves because they were together as an L-shaped unit and needed rebuilding to fit on the other side of the window, but I'm pretty happy with how it turned out and there's still enough clearance to get my arm in the cupboard and turn the heating on and off. If I sell enough stuff I should be able to get rid of the clothes rail, and I can use the wall where it is for photos or a full-length mirror (I can still move it if necessary). Downside is a lot more ugly industrial carpet is visible now.

It's not obvious at all! I don't know anyone with a loft bed in this area so it would never have ocurred to me. I think that'd be difficult/dangerous to do in this room, because the floorboards under the carpet are sunk in the middle and higher at the edges in places, which creates a noticeable lean for stuff right up against some walls. Plus I'm renting privately and might be forced to move when my contract's up for renewal so it's a risky expense.
