I agree with this. I haven't missed an Otakon since 2006. And it seems every year less and less people are cosplaying. Otakon is slowly becoming a more normalfag thing every year.

Thats how it seems to me anyway, I have no numbers to go by, just observations. This was the first time I ever actually "cosplayed" and I put that in quotes because I looked nothing like Bane from the movie. I was just trying to act as an icon to coordinate the meetups.

My other problem is there are no interesting panels for me. I either watch super old anime, or currently airing anime. There are panels for old anime sure but theres nothing a panel can teach me about those series that I don't already know.

An example, i'm a big JJBA fan, I had no urge to goto any JJBA panels because once you've been to one, you've been to them all. I can't wait to be told how many stands are music references again. I might just not see the appeal of panels.

As for the anime viewings, my attitude towards them was adjusted slightly this Otakon. I used to think they were pointless because if i'm going to watch Chinese cartoons I'm going to do it in the comfort of my own home. On Saturday I watched one of the Lupin the third movies with an audience and even I have to admit the audience interaction made it a bit more hype.

As for the dealers room, they only sell junk in there. I picked up one junk item that I regret and I picked up a very specific type of controller I needed for a personal hobby of mine. Again, i'm sure this is just a personal problem with me. I download everything; anime, manga, doujins, games, you name it. If you collect then the dealers room is probably awesome for you but its just not for me.

So with all these factors its really hard for me to have fun at Otakon pre-seagull meetup.
