I've owned both the replica and the real deal anon. There are HUGE differences. The real one cost me around 350 with shipping, so I wouldn't say that it isn't selling for much.
I see it being sold at least a couple times a month.

So no I don't think it died of the 'replica disease', It's still popular just not so popular (in the west) anymore. Most people are into classic / class - sweet now, which I think is the issue.
