Okay, there's a lot to unpack here. First of all, where are you based? I'm guessing you're a burger, which means as a bong I can't give much advice for places to buy kit and stuff. My advice would be to look for any semi-local larps and join in on those. They will have a costume brief of some kind (hopefully, god knows in the US) that can then dictate what sort of kit you'll want to put together. There's a huge gulf between high fantasy, low fantasy, quasi-reenactment and everything in between, and throw in taking from entirely different historical periods and its impossible to give you a direct answer. If you do just want to do this solo, its not really Larp as much as it's walking around the woods in cool kit, which is fine, but not really sure how to approach that.
