If you're not feeling confident about your own looks maybe you should look into changing that. Losing weight and taking better care of yourself would probably make you go up a few "points" in your own perception and you'll be able to walk beside him with pride in not only his good looks but you two looking good together!
Don't ever hesitate to help make him feel better about himself because you're afraid he'll leave you if he does. It sounds like you're being a really good gf by helping him and if he's so great he'll realise how lucky he was to find you.
