It's soft, 75 ppm, but not insanely soft. I could add a little baggie of crushed coral to the filter to harden it a bit if I need to.

Never thought of the tap water as a possible culprit. There is flouride in my county's water. As of 2013, no arsenic detected in our water.

I've been considering poisoning as a possible cause, but I don't spray anything in my bedroom, and I rinse my hands/arms before screwing with my tank.
