Remaking a system typically creates a bunch of controversy since there is always a number of people who benefit greatly from an old system, particularly larps with spell systems since they attract snowflakes with no life except for that one time of the year where they get to pretend to be gandalf.

We had maybe a 100 people or so that left because their characters weren't invincible or über anymore over night, even the guys who got to keep their magical experience and choose new traits/spells in the new system got butthurt. Its understandable that some people would get upset since this campaign has been running for over 25 years, but for the better part it was npc characters or player characters that abused the system who got permanently axed, not the guys who have been going for ten years and reached the top level in their magical line. On the other hand I do think it was kinda childish to just leave, spells don't make a huge difference in the game mechanics since 90% are supportive in nature (ex: dark magicians start out with "interrogate dead", then they can raise like one zombie out of a dead player after like 7-8 years of attendance. Light magicians do stuff like "fear ward", buffs that counter dark magic mostly, and I think their final spell that they can attain is "resurrect" but don't quote me on that one), you mainly just want the role playing privilege of saying that you are a mighty wizard and attend rituals and some other prestigious shit.

Though this shitfest wasn't even comparable to the shield nerf they had eight years ago..
