OP I wear outfits like this every day. School, grocery store, shopping, to my bf's house. Every day I wear shorts or a skirt with high socks (or ankle socks if its hot, of course). Its the only everyday clothes I own now.

I live in a small town full of old white people who give me bad looks for wearing lolita. In this kind of jfashion though Ive only ever gotten compliments, really. In my senior year of highschool I was one of the nominees for best dressed. (I'm sorry if this is coming off as bragging, I just want to let you know that you can dress this way, and you should just be confident!)

Once or twice ive gotten the "cute socks" thing from guys. A few other times some otaku-looking guys hit on me. But for the most part its normal people telling me I look nice and dress nice.

I'd say the key to making it look more "proper" is to always wear a nice blouse, and on cold days, a nice sweater with a blouse under it. I never show my cleavage, ever, and generally I cover my arms all the time. >>7440677 is a good example of keeping it nice and proper. Here you see she has a blouse, a neck tie, and a fashionable coat. Her upper half is completely covered and generally shapeless (not that thats a bad thing, if anything thats a GOOD thing).

Of course, this is all just my experience and opinion.
