Glass pearls have an evenness to them that nothing but high grade (i.e. expensive $175 single strand necklaces) pearls can achieve. In short, they're good for necklace patterns that need symmetry and evenness. Of course, there are also different grades of glass pearls (highest being Swarovski, which uses a process simulating the creation of actual pearls) and you would need to choose carefully between meh, good, and better brands to get a glass pearl that doesn't look cheap.

Gosh, this grinds my gears so hard. What do you think these BTSSB necklaces are made from? I guarantee you they aren't freshwater pearls. Probably not even Swarovski, considering how much a single Swarovski pearl pendant can go for.
