Very much this. I also have relatively large muscular thighs but more slender calves, so skirts that hit right at the narrowest point of my knee are very slimming whereas ones that hit higher make me look like I have T-rex legs. Likewise, skirts that hit at the broadest part of my calves make my legs look stumpy and fat, but miniskirts that hit right where my thighs curve in a bit are very flattering. It really depends on the person what looks nice and what doesn't. Same goes for socks, actually.
I personally think the longer skirts are much more elegant but not everyone can pull them off.

The entire dress seems to be made of horrible scratchy lace. If you removed the lace she'd be left standing in her underwear. The style of the dress seems pretty iffy as well. Maybe if someone who really knew their shit made it out of lolita-appropriate high quality fabric it could work, but as an overpriced ebay monstrosity, no.

I hate seeing gorgeous coords like this and then no picture of the girl actually wearing it. I want to see someone wear it once they've taken the effort to put together something so pretty!
