Or people were uncomfortable because bringing politics up can be a sensitive issue, especially on such a large scale like this. Bringing it up in a class that has nothing to do with politics, especially when not prompted, is just awkward and cringey. Yes, there are probably people who don't think your life matters, but saying all three hundred don't is probably a huge miscalculation and people were more likely cringing at your off topic question that can lead to a lot of heated debates that could otherwise be used for on topic lectures. Likewise, it's possible people were cringing for your calculus teacher, assuming that was actually not prompted by a SJW such as yourself.
