'Sup noobs. Namefagging here because despite my boyishly youthful countenance, I'm actually an old man who still can't figure out how to tripfag despite posting here for over a decade. Anyways, my Otakon report.

I had such an amazing time cosplaying as The Rocketeer. I was surprised at how many people recognized the character since the film wasn't that popular when it was released. It made me so happy whenever somebody said it was their favorite childhood film or a parent would tell their child "look, it's The Rocketeer!" and he or she would look at me in wonder. However, I always felt bad whenever someone complimented me on the appearance of my costume because I myself did not actually do any work on it. The jacket was from a company that does hollywood film jacket replicas, helmet was done by a propmaker from California and I commissioned my brother to make the Cirrus X3 rocketpack which he spent many weeks to create. I always gave credit to these individuals whenever someone asked because I want to be honest and honor the work of these people and not mislead anyone into thinking I did any of this myself. I know I am a mental retard when it comes to the arts and crafts and I don't have the time or the skill to create the cosplays that I want to. The reason I cosplay is because I view it as a ritual to align myself with a story that resonates with me. By dressing up as the character, it gives me a connection to the mythology of the story that I enjoy and allows me to share this experience with other people. That's why I'm a lot more satisfied when someone says they loved The Rocketeer movie or how it was their favorite film as a kid and we get into a discussion about it than someone simply saying that my cosplay looks awesome.
