I like gored, but honestly it really depends on the design. For instance, pic related looks great, but I owned a copycat version once, and realised that you really do need a very full, very wide A-line petti, otherwise all of the tiers and ruffles completely collapse around a smaller petti, making the whole thing look like a sorry mess of fabric.
