I don't know enough about riveted mail to comment on this particular piece's quality or the tapering measurements, sadly. I don't think riveted mail typically has any durability issues though, so the leather trim is probably down to personal preference.

I do recommend getting the riding split, afaik those were historically pretty standard and help with range of leg movement a lot.
