I'm not sure about curly hair as I have wavy hair myself, but my best friend has very curly hair, like 3c(she's mixed) and she wakes up every morning half an hour earlier than she should in order to individually condition and twirl her every curl around her finger with a coconut hair lotion that she buys at a hair store for black girls. Even during our lunchtime, after we finished eating and we just hang around, she will pop that bottle out of her bag and start twirling her hair with conditioner. It takes a long time. That being said, her hair looks awesome, and there isn't a single day that she doesn't gets compliments from random strangers regarding her bouquet of curls.
Pic related, I guess, it's just that my friend's curls are way tighter and slightly shorter.
