But how do you get in and out of it?

I commend his effort but they still look like modern clothing and the proportions of many of the parts are just off. At least his Altair looks very off.

Yes, Cuir Bouilli is hardened leather, either using hot water or hot wax. Traditionally you use bee's wax with a low melting temperature, I use paraffin because I have a near infinite supply of old candles, it doesn't melt and deform in the southern heat and makes the hardened leather completely waterproof. The problem then is that the higher heat required to liquefy an entire pot of wax is much higher. If the leather is too thin when you put it into the wax it will cook and shrivel up ruining the piece. I normally deal with much thicker leather which can take the heat than the stuff I first used with the bracers. I wish I had a picture of the failed first attempt but i threw it out and started on another part of the costume instead.

In the past I have made Fighting armor out of hardened leather in this way. When it first comes out of the wax you can mold it in any shape then allow it to cool and it will remain that way. You can create complex curves and all sorts of shapes without cutting and stitching them.
