Back in the day before prints brands would release the same dress in multiple colors and sweet vs gothic was mostly in the color.

You say there are motifs and themes but I think you are misunderstanding some of them. Bows don't automatically equal sweet, neither do round toe shoes with bows. Lolita show trends have changed as much as the dresses. The heart shaped purse in >>9953092 transcends all styles depending on the color.
